📝 Studio Journal: The Making of a Collection

I always have too many ideas. They arrive in flashes — a shape, a color, a mood — and I have to write or sketch them before they slip away. Some grow quickly, others sit quietly in my notebook for weeks, months, or even years, waiting for the right moment to bloom.

✏️ From Sketch to Bench

The first step is drawing: loose lines, geometric forms, notes in the margins. From there, I imagine how silver might take shape, how stones might catch the light. Often one idea expands into a family of pieces — necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, even brooches.

💎 Gathering Materials

Next comes the treasure hunt. I sift through sapphires, pearls, quartz, each with its own personality. Matching stones to designs is like matchmaking. If I don’t find what I need in the studio, I head to gem shows, reach out to dealers, or search online.

🔨 Trial & Error

At the bench, ideas meet reality. Some designs work beautifully, others need rethinking. I solder, file, polish — and sometimes scrap it all and start over. It’s not failure, it’s refinement. Each attempt brings me closer to the piece I imagined.

✨ The First Sample

Eventually, one piece emerges that feels whole. A sample that carries the spirit of the collection and inspires the rest of the family.

📸 Photos & Sharing

Once the sample is ready, I photograph it — silver glowing, gemstones catching light. These images become the bridge between studio and audience. Some pieces move on to a professional shoot with my photographer, Cole, for exhibitions, shows, and advertising.

🎪 At the Show

Finally, the collection steps out into the world. Each piece feels like my little baby, and I’m thrilled to watch how they behave in public — catching eyes, sparkling under lights, settling onto a hand or wrist as if they’ve found their home. Seeing customers connect with them is like watching them take their first steps.

Closing Thought

Making a new collection is a journey of inspiration, patience, and discovery. From the first sketch to the moment a customer tries it on, each piece carries a story — mine, and eventually theirs.
